Muira puama is indigenous to Guyana and the Amazon region of Brazil and the roots have been exported to Europe for more than 100 years. The medicinal parts are the dried roots and the dried trunk with bark used as powder or extract from the powder. Triterpenic andsteroidal compounds, flavonoids, methylxanthin and alkaloids were isolated from the plant. Alpha-pinene represents the principal component of the essential oil.

Muira puama is used as a tonic to support men’s and women’s health.
