LuteinLutein is a carotenoid present in the typical human diet. Lutein is dominant in the peripheral region of the retina.

Lutein may help support ocular health. Lutein is selectively accumulated in the human eye retina from blood plasma. Meso-zeaxanthin, another carotenoid found in the human retina, is formed directly in the retina from lutein.

Scientific Data:
The weight of epidemiological evidence suggests that increased dietary intake of lutein, due in part to elevated consumption of lutein-rich vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, and collard greens, is associated with a reduced risk for age-related macular degeneration.

Dietary Sources:
Lutein is one of the most widely found carotenoids distributed in fruits and vegetables frequently consumed. Lutein is found in high levels in foods such as green vegetables, egg yolk, kiwi fruit, grapes, orange juice, zucchini, squash, pistachio nuts, and corn.
